Dates: April 22 – 30
Airport: DCA to DPS
I’ve had my passport for the past two years before finally taking my first international flight. I was super excited and nervous at the same time. I’ll be going over some tips and places to see and eat.
Bali Itinerary
Flight
I bought my flight through Google Flights during Black Friday for $675. Whenever I’m contemplating a trip, I always set a flight alert. I had been stalking this flight for months with average ticket price around $800 so when that alert came for $675, I jumped on it. My flight was DCA to JFK to HKG to DPS. It took me approximately two days to get there. My domestic airline was American and the international one was with Cathay Pacific.
Cathay Pacific
- Pros: seats were comfy, free movies, music, entertainment, USB port available to charge your devices, staff were super friendly
- Cons: you have to pay to pick your seat early or free when check in at gate, the food wasn’t good
Currency
I would suggest exchanging money at the airport. The tour guide for the group took us to a place that was higher than the airport. I alternated between using cash and debit because my bank (Capital One) didn’t charge me and money conversion fees.
Getting around
Everything is so spread out in Bali that it’s recommended to have a driver for your trip. I used Discover Bali Drivers. They were great! They were on time, friendly, reasonably priced, and had good suggestions as well.
Restaurants in Bali
My food list is ALWAYS longer my things to do list lol. Let’s face it, eating is muy importante. For the most part I enjoyed the food. I wasn’t really impressed with the drinks there. They used mostly Smirnoff Vodka. Not many top shelf options. Below are some of my fav places:
Here’s a list of some places that were on my food list that I didn’t get a chance to visit:
- Ayana Resort
- White Sands Beach House
- Big Fish Bar and Grill
- Stones Kitchen
- Dava Steak and Seafood
- Kayumanis Resort
- Happy Cow
- La Brasserie
- UNIQUE rooftop Bar & Restaurant
- Above Eleven Bali
- Fat Chow Temple
- Wahrung Pndak Madu
- Luxe BBQ & Grill
- Herb Library
Things to Do in Bali
Bali is such a peaceful and beautiful place. I will highlight some of my favorite places.
I had so much fun even though I was super nervous. They give a good amount of pushes and someone is there taking your pics. I was too scared to let my hands go for the gram so I got some pretty basic shots lol.
Tegenungan Waterfall
This place is located off a cliff. It has amazing views and gives off magical vibes. Be prepared to pay ($35) to get it, but it’s worth it.
My driver recommended the W. I was thoroughly pleased. You don’t have to be a guest of the hotel to enjoy the pool. They have visitor seating available. If you have a large party, you need to make a reservation. They allow you to rent the towels ($2), drinks were really good, and they have hookah as well. This definitely the spot for relaxation good music and vibes.
I couldn’t leave Bali without taking a yoga class. Bali one of the top places people go for a yoga retreat. I really enjoyed the class. The only thing I didn’t like was that you cold only sign up for the class 30 minutes before start time. Get there early and you can register in person. They also provided mosquito repellent lotion that I fell in love with.
When I saw this place was everything, it was EVERYTHING!! I got a foot wash, 1 hour massage, body scrub, and the celebration of flowers. Reservations book fast so make sure you plan this in advance.
Here’s some other places on my list that I didn’t get a chance to go to:
- Hanging Gardens
- Sundari Day Spa
- Ubud Yoga House
- Pura Taman Saraswati
- Gates of Heaven
- Pura Tirta Empul Temple
- Mason Elephant Park and Lodge
Lodging
My Lodging experience wasn’t the best since I let someone else pick out the hotel. I split my stay between Kuta/Denpasar and Seminyak. The stay in Kuta could have been left out. If I had to do it again, I would have stayed in Ubud or The W in Seminyak (mentioned above).
