Some how, my friend and I started a new tradition of traveling during Cinco de Mayo weekend. Last year, we went to Las Vegas for Cinco de Mayo. Since I have relocated to Atlanta, I don't get to see my DC friends as often as I use to. Traveling is a good way to keep in touch.

Houston Hotel

Let's talk about Houston hotels. We ended up staying at Le Méridien in downtown Houston. Le Méridien is apart of Marriott's hotel group. I like that the hotel was located  in downtown Houston, and centrally close to things to do in Houston. The hotel was pretty modern, but you can tell they were working on renovations. There were still some old signage up from the previous hotel.

My favorite thing about the hotel was their rooftop hotel bar. What an amazing view! You can order and sip cocktails while you sit back and enjoy the views. The hotel gym was my second favorite place. All the equipment was new. Most hotel gym equipment isn't always new so if you're looking to get a vacation workout in, you will like this hotel. There was water and cool towels for you to use. Other amenities include a restaurant and meeting rooms.

My only negative review comes from the annoying neighbor next door. They left their dog in the room who cried and barked, and whined while we were trying to take our afternoon nap (yes we nap because naps are essential lol). I can say the hotel staff did attempt to reach out to them and even offered to move us to a different room. I'm all for pet friendly hotels, but I definitely think all the pet friendly rooms should be grouped together.

Houston Food Scene

Let's get into the Houston food scene. Prior to my trip, I did some research on the top places to eat. I wanted to experience the best restaurants in Houston. Here are some of the places I got to try.

Turkey Leg Hut has been on my list forever! I was super excited to come try their turkey legs. You have the option to make reservations or do a walk-in. We chose the latter since we went on a Thursday night. I definitely recommend making reservation if you chose to go on the weekend. The main seating area is outside. It was a windy cool night, so we didn't have to worry about sweating our @$$$es off lol. I ordered the smoked turkey leg topped with crawfish mac n cheese. It was soooo good! The portion size was huge, so you better bring your eating stomach! I enjoyed my cocktail and they also had hookah available for $40. They had these rolling encasements for the hookah, which is smart! It protects anyone from damaging the hookah. If I'm ever in Houston again, I will come back! Word on the street is that they are opening a location in Atlanta!

We went to Heights Social because they offered a Tequila flight of all top shelve Tequila for only $50. Cinco de Mayo is one the few times that I will willingly drink Tequilla. The liquors included in our flight was Clase Azul Repasado, Herradura Ultra Anejo Cristalino, Don Julio Rosado, and Komos Extra Anejo. My favorite were Clase Azul and Herradura. Everyone kept saying we were brave to each have our own flight, but honestly I felt fine after taking all the shots. One, they were one ounce pours, and two, I'm not a beginner drinker. While we enjoyed our flight, the bartender was super cool and they even had a band to come out.

Thirteen restaurant is a restaurant owned by NBA player, James Harden. When I first found out about his restaurant, I wanted to try it.

Let me just say, I loved the ambiance, the service, and the food. We encountered an air conditioning issue that caused the restaurant to be extremely hot. Like so hot I had to pull out my portable fan! We alerted the staff, but nothing was done. This made it uncomfortable to enjoy my meal.

Thirteen also has a lounge area on property. I was soo happy to be there because that part of the restaurant, the air was working!!!! It was a vibe in there. Friendly staff, cute drinks, and of course my fav, hookah.

Things to do in Houston

I mainly went to Houston to eat, but I manages to check out some things to do in Houston. By some, I mean one thing LOLOL.

Yall, The Galleria Mall had literally every store that you can think of. From high end stores to regular folks stores. You name it, The Galleria had it. I was there for over an hour walking around and got a mini cardio session in lol.
