Broccoli City Festival 2023 Full Recap

Broccoli City Festival was the first festival I attended when I lived in Washington, D.C. This was back in 2018 when Nipsey Hussle, Cardi B, and Migos performed. When I saw that Brent Faiyaz was headlining Broccoli City Festival in 2023, I knew I had to be there. Keep reading for my full recap of Broccoli City Festival 2023.

Planning Your Visit

Tickets

I'm typically a VIP girl, but since I was buying tickets for my boyfriend's birthday, my money wasn't that long this time around LOL. I went with general admission plus that was and in between general admission and VIP. Honestly the perks were as great as I'm use too. I couldn't get a close view of the stage, although, I still had a good time. My recommendation will always be VIP. Make sure you sign up for Broccoli City Fest alerts so you know when tickets go on sale. The sooner you buy tickets, the cheaper they will be.

Airport

Since I currently live in Atlanta, I had to fly out this year for Broccoli City Festival. D.C. has 3 airports in the area, but I flew into Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). It's in the heart of D.C. and metro accessible. Being metro accessible means no traffic and high Uber costs. A metro ride is around $5-$7. Flying into BWI would be okay if you want to Uber to your hotel, but I would not fly into IAD. IAD is the one airport your friends don't want to pick you up from LOL. IYKYK.

Hotel

I chose to stay at Hampton Inn White House location because it was in downtown D.C., one block from the metro, and they offered free breakfast. I used travel points to cover 80% of my stay. If you're interested in learning how to earn travel points without flying, check out the blog post here.

I strongly recommend you choose a hotel that's metro accessible. Typically all festival locations have been near a metro stop. You can learn more about the WMATA D.C. metro here.

What to Bring

There will be water stations for you to refill your water bottle. It gets really hot. I mean HOT. People were passing out left and right. I highly suggest you start hydrating a week before the festival. Also make sure your water bottle is empty when entering the festival!

I love my water bottle holder. Keeps me hands free so I could enjoy the festival.

Fanny Pack

Stay hands free and breeze through security with these fanny. If fanny packs aren't your thing, make sure you bring a small purse.

Portable Fan

It will be hot, so pack a fan so you can cool off.

Hand Sanitizer

Keep your hands clean with sanitizer especially if you plan on eating in between sets.

Wireless Portable Charger

You will need this! Festivals are an all day event where you will be using your cellphone to records sets and take pictures. This charger works with iPhone and Android devices that have the capability to charge wirelessly. Great thing, is you don't need to carry your USB cable.

Liquid IV

Hydrate, hydrate hydrate!!!

Sunscreen

There won't be a lot of shade there. Make sure you bring sunscreen to avoid getting sunburnt.

Rain Poncho

Music festivals are rain or shine. It rained while I was there, so I was thankful, I brought a poncho.

  • Comfortable shoes. You will be on your feet for hours.
  • Paper to write down your friends' numbers just in case your phone dies or you lose your phone.
  • Leave the cash at home. Broccoli City Fest is a cashless event.

The Festival

My overall experience was great. I saw Brent Faiyaz perform for the first time and went on my first vacation with my boyfriend. Good memories were made. I think the logistics could have been better. Too many people were passing out at the festival to the point where the artists stop performing mid-set to ask for help. I didn't experience this in 2018, so i'm not sure what was different this time around.

The lineup was amazing. I hate I missed some due to performances happening at the same time, but hey that's music festivals. I ate before I arrived at the festival both days, so I can't comment on the quality of food. There was a GA+ lounge, but I never checked it out.

If the line up was a good one, I would attend Broccoli City Festival again.
