This year, I was celebrating my 35th birthday and I wanted to do something special, so I decided to go on a solo trip to Jamaica. I’ve been getting more into solo travel, and while I was a little reserved since this was only my second solo international trip, I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. My favorite part was connecting with different people and experiencing the culture firsthand. Montego Bay is the perfect destination for a birthday getaway, offering beautiful beaches, vibrant nightlife, and plenty of exciting excursions. In this guide, I’ll share the best things to do in Montego Bay, recommendations on where to stay in Montego Bay, and tips on choosing some of the top all-inclusive resorts in Montego Bay that make planning a solo trip easy and stress free.
Dates: November 5-8, 2022
Airport: ATL

Booking
I booked most of my trip through Delta Vacations. Flight, hotel, and transportation. I used a combination of gift cards and miles to cover half of my trip. This year, I signed up for AMEX Gold, AMEX Delta Sky Miles Platinum and AMEX Platinum credit cards. When I received my sign on bonus miles, I converted them to Delta Sky Miles and used them for my trip. Check out how I leverage points and miles to earn free or discounted trips here.

Airport
When I booked my trip, I elected for the VIP airport arrival package. I had no clue what I was buying, all I saw was VIP. I said it’s my birthday, why not?! LOL. When. I tell you I was so glad I bought this. When I got off the plane, there was someone waiting for me with a sign that had my name on it. She lead me through airport customs to a priority line. The standard line was super long. It wrapped and wrapped throughout the airport. I later spoke with someone I met at the resort who said they waited in line for an hour. I only waited about 20-30 minutes. After I went through customs, I was able to access the lounge while I wait for transportation. Club Mobay is a must when traveling to Montego Bay!

All-Inclusive Resort in Montego Bay
I stayed at the all inclusive Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall resort. The resort also houses Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall. Ziva is the family side and Zilara is the Adults only side. As an adult, you can still access the adult side. Everything is walking distance from each other. The resort offered activities, pool with DJ, beach access, spa, plenty of food options, and HOOKAH! The food was really good and my room was nice. It came with a stocked mini fridge. Room service is 24hours. My only takeaway is the resort didn’t provide a list of daily activities. I had to ask or randomly hear about them. I did attempt to book a Chef’s dinner for my birthday, but didn’t hear anything back.

Things to do in Montego Bay
I didn’t venture off too much because I kinda waited until the last minute to do excursions. I had a few I wanted to do that I’m going to list below. I did check out Lounge 2727 for my birthday night out. It was a vibe. The DJ played a mix of hip hop and reggae. They also have hookah. I would definitely recommend. If you would like reasonable transportation for tours and a night out, definitely reach out to Jamaica Way Tours.
